Suppose you sample independently from a large (infinite) population of design choices. Each sample i represents a particular design resulting in a particular system performance, Ji. Let us say the Ji's are distributed N(m, sigma2). Now we randomly pick k designs Ji, i = 1, 2, ..., k. What is the probability that among these k picks there is at least one design that is larger than some given value Jsatisfactory.
