A schematic representation of a digitally encoded message.  The spectrum associated with each ASK pulse or "sinusoidal burst" is centered at the carrier frequency and has a frequency width which is proportional to the inverse of the temporal width of the pulse.  Thus, when the channel slot uses the entire assigned frequency band (as indicated above), the transmitted data rate of the system is roughly equal to the assigned frequency bandwidth.
