Semaphore Station at Staten Island (1838)

Apparently the first illustration of telecommunications in the United States, in 1838.  On the left the semaphore station of Staten Island in New York Bay.  This was an intermediate between Sandy Hook and Merchants' Exchange in Manhattan, New York.
