Elements than are varied or repeated in the architecture of Herzog & de Meuron

The architects Jaques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron have co-operated for approximately 18 years. They have know each other since their school time, together studying at the ETH Zurich. They have been strongly influenced by Aldo Rossi. In the year 1975 they concluded their study and were noticeable immediately thereafter with interesting competition contributions, which led provocatively to discussions, even if they were not selected. Their first articles were already published in different architecture magazines.

Although Herzog & de Meuron are well-known internationally, they have built in Germany, Austria and Italy and had exhibitions in Spain and the Netherlands, they have however concentrated their efforts on spaces in Basel, their place of origin in the biographical as well as cultural sense.
