In our data-driven society we often seek to optimize objectives learned from data to make complex decisions. Machine learning largely focuses on techniques for predictions, but does not generally give us guarantees for making decisions over models predicted from data. Theoretical computer science offers algorithms for optimizing decisions, though usually ignores underlying statistical processes that generate the objectives optimized. The goal of this workshop is to inspire collaborations between machine learning and theoretical computer science to advance our understanding of data-driven decision making.
