THE DISCRETE EVENT DYNAMIC
SYSTEM GROUP AT HARVARD
In 1975, Y.C.
Ho started research in manufacturing system engineering. By 1982, he
was devoting full time research to this area and have coined the term DEDS
to repr
esent the subject. Two specific subfields, perturbation analysis
and ordinal optimization, were initiated by and are the main outputs of
this group headed by Ho. Over the years, this group and its former members
have won eight national and international a
wards for the works done, helped
organized six international conferences/workshops, published one video tape,
three books, and over 100 refereed papers on the subject matter. More recently, the research of this group is concentrated in the theory of Ordin
al Optimization and its relationship to soft computing and comuting intelligence
This group also cooperates with colleagues in the
Manufacturing Engineering Department of
Boston University (Professors
J.Q. Hu and
Pirooz Vakili) and
Christos Cassandras) and the
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Department of the Univeristy of Massachusetts
at Amherst (Professor
Weibo Gong)
in curriculum development and research for DEDS under a joint NSF grant.
Current members of the DEDS group at Harvard include:
Yu-Chi Ho
Jonathan Lee
Xiaocang Lin
Zhaohui Chen
Some of the graduated Ph.D's from the group:
T. W. Edward Lau
Loo-Hay Lee
David W. Li
Michael S. Yang
The Group of DEDS at Harvard has a regular
seminar schedule, the seminar is open
and you are welcome to join us!
